Brendan Rodgers' links to the Manchester United job has derailed Leicester City's season, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Rodgers led the Foxes to their first-ever FA Cup last season, but their attempts to defend the trophy came to an end thanks to a heavy fourth round defeat to Championship side Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

What's the latest news involving Rodgers and Man United?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked as Manchester United's manager in November and Leicester chief Rodgers was quickly installed as the bookmakers' favourite.

The speculation led to Rodgers holding an emergency meeting with senior players at the King Power Stadium.

Instead of attempting to prise the Northern Irishman away from their Premier League rivals, Manchester United owners the Glazers opted to appoint Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager until the end of the season, when the German will move into a consultancy role.

Rodgers admitted he was 'embarrassed' by Leicester's performance as they exited the FA Cup at the hands of Nottingham Forest.

The latest setback has led to claims that the 49-year-old is on the brink of being shown the door by the Foxes.

Since Solskjaer's Old Trafford axing, Leicester have only managed to chalk up five victories in all competitions.

What has Dean Jones said about Rodgers?

Jones believes Leicester's underwhelming run of form since Rodgers' links to Manchester United is not a coincidence.

The journalist understands Rodgers was keen on heading to Old Trafford following Solskjaer's removal from the hot seat.

When asked about the pressure rising on Rodgers at Leicester, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I'd be careful what you wish for there. The situation that he has got Leicester into and managed to maintain has been pretty admirable.

"I think that the one thing you wonder about is whether Brendan has had his eye on the next step up. Maybe that Manchester United interest has just forced him to have a little bit of a wobble.

"I don't think it's a coincidence, to be honest, that it's since he was linked with the Manchester United job that Leicester have seen their form fall all over the place. He definitely had interest in that Manchester United job."

Why has Rodgers been on Man United's radar?

A lack of positive results may have seen Leicester fall further away from the European qualification spots, but there is no denying that Rodgers is a fantastic manager.

Rodgers headed to Leicester after winning an abundance of trophies at Celtic, including two Scottish Premiership crowns.

Silverware has followed at the King Power Stadium and that is something Manchester United have been unable to grasp since 2017.

Unlike other potential candidates for the job, Rodgers has plenty of experience in the Premier League having managed in the competition more than 260 times.
