Angel Gomes, the former Manchester United starlet who currently plies his trade with French side Lille, was left surprised when Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi asked for his shirt.
PSG thumped reigning Ligue 1 champions Lille 5-1 away from home on Sunday night.
Sven Botman equalised for Lille midway through the first half after Danilo Pereira opened the scoring for PSG.
But the visitors were 3-1 up before half-time thanks to Presnel Kimpembe and Messi, who notched his second league goal for his current employers.
Danilo Pereira further increased PSG’s lead early in the second half, while Kylian Mbappe added gloss to the scoreline in the 67th minute.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side now sit 13 points clear of Marseille at the top of Ligue 1 and look certain to be crowned French champions within the next couple of months.
Gomes, who was once regarded as one of Man Utd’s brightest prospects, came on for the final 20 minutes in place of Hatem Ben Arfa.
Angel Gomes surprised by Lionel Messi shirt request
And the 21-year-old, who has represented England at every level from the Under-16s to the Under-21s, managed to bag Messi’s shirt for his collection.
As he was about to walk away with his new prize possession, Gomes was suddenly stopped by Messi.
And the London-born attacking midfielder looked a little shocked when the legendary seven-time Ballon d’Or winner asked for his shirt in return.
Gomes understandably had a big smile on his face as he handed his shirt over to arguably the greatest footballer of all time.
They then shared a quick hug before returning to their respective dressing rooms.
