Tottenham Hotspur target Alessandro Bastoni has a bright future ahead of him and boasts the potential to be a generational talent, according to Forza Italian Football journalist Conor Clancy.

Spurs left their January business until the final day of the window, with Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur heading to north London from Juventus, but it appears head coach Antonio Conte is eager to secure defensive reinforcements when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

What's the latest news involving Bastoni?

According to The Telegraph, Inter Milan ace Bastoni has worked his way onto Conte's radar ahead of potentially making a move at the end of the season.

The report suggests Conte, who was appointed as Spurs' head coach in November, is eager to bolster his defensive options after failing to do so last month and has also added Lille's Sven Botman and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol to his shortlist.

Bastoni has been among the defenders being tracked by Conte since shortly after his unveiling at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but it appears as though he would need to part with a considerable sum to secure the services of the Italian.

Transfermarkt values Bastoni at £54million and, with his £122,000-per-week contract not due to expire until the summer of 2024, Inter are in a strong negotiating position.

Meeting the 22-year-old's valuation would result in Bastoni becoming the joint-most expensive arrival in Tottenham's history.

What has Conor Clancy said about Bastoni?

Italian football expert Clancy has been watching Bastoni closely during the early stages of his career and he believes the defender would be an impressive signing for Spurs.

Clancy feels Bastoni has huge potential and could take Conte's defensive options to the next level if they manage to lure him away from Inter.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "I think Bastoni is going to go on to be one of the defining defensive talents of this generation."

Why is Bastoni of interest to Spurs?

Bastoni may only be 22, but he has already racked up more than 100 appearances in Serie A and for Inter.

There is no denying that he would bring a winning mentality to Tottenham as he has won the Italian top flight crown and Supercoppa Italiana at club level, along with the Euro 2020 title with Italy.

Bastoni has previous experience of working under Conte as well, having featured for the current Spurs chief 74 times during his time at the San Siro.

The nine-cap Italy international would bolster Tottenham's rearguard and also pose a threat in the opposition's penalty area after chalking up 12 goal involvements at senior level.
