Sadio Mane is yet to return to Liverpool after leading Senegal to the first ever AFCON triumph.

Mane scored the winning penalty in the final shootout against Egpyt, making amends for the spot-kick missed in the first half.

After lifting the trophy, he couldn't hide his delight at what he claimed to be the most 'important' trophy of his career so far.

“I am very proud and I think it is the best moment of my life ever.

"This day I think it is the best day. I won the Champions League and some trophies but I think this is the special one for me, this is more important for me,” Mane told Goal after the game.

After winning the tournament in Cameroon, Mane and his Senegalese teammates flew back to their country to continue their celebrations. And the scenes we witnessed were pretty incredible.

It means Mane will miss Liverpool's Premier League clash against Leicester on Thursday but who can deny him the opportunity to show off the AFCON trophy in his own country.

Earlier this week, Mane met the Senegal president Macky Sall and was awarded an officer medal with the rest of the squad.

However, in front of thousands of adoring supporters, Mane was more interested in pleasing them than meeting the president.

After receiving a medal from Macky Sall, Mane snubbed a handshake and instead celebrated in front of the fans.

The celebration? One stolen from Liverpool teammate, Roberto Firmino.

Mane has a reputation of copying celebrations from his teammates at Anfield and it looks as though he's done so yet again.

On Tuesday, Klopp was asked about the timeline of Mane's return with the Liverpool boss seemingly delighted for his player.

“Sadio flies out if it’s possible on Wednesday night, so will arrive here on Thursday, but he is, of course, then not involved in the Leicester game," Klopp told reporters.

“It means the world to him, it means the world to his people, it means the world to Senegal and we respect that a lot and we would never consider to have called back him from there or whatever – let them do what they do in the moment because they deserve it.

“They’ve had an incredibly intense time, so when he is back we will talk to him and we will see how we can use him.

“We have texted a little bit here and there but he is still in Africa, still in Senegal, celebrating and we will see – Wednesday night or something like that we will send him out.

"But yes, it was obviously a big tournament and meant the world to him.
