This year's Royal Rumble saw a bit of a mess-up between Randy Orton and Shane McMahon when their entrance numbers were switched.

In the aftermath of the Rumble, there have been a lot of reports about how unhappy Shane was backstage and how WWE responded by quietly letting him go.

More and more is being revealed about the drama backstage, but the latest reports from Fightful Select highlight how things went wrong between Shane and Orton.

Each wrestler has a set number for when they will be joining the Royal Rumble as AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura started off this year's match in Missouri.

Orton was reportedly meant to be in at number 28 and was about to walk out through the curtain when McMahon's music started to play.

Shane was left in shock and headed up to the curtain to make it known how unhappy he was with the confusion.

Orton then gave McMahon a "verbal cue" that he wouldn't be heading out into the ring and suddenly burst out laughing and mocked the whole situation.

It's being reported that The Viper even 'fell to the ground in laughter' at the entire situation.

According to reports, Orton's reaction was "good fun" after it had been a hectic day.

In the end, however, both McMahon and Orton failed to win as Brock Lesnar won his second Royal Rumble of his career.

If Lesnar was to win the Royal Rumble again, he would match Stone Cold Steve Austin's record of three Rumble wins.
