Burnley might still be bottom of the Premier League following their 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Tuesday night, but The Clarets look to have uncovered a major asset in the shape of new signing Wout Weghorst.

The 29-year-old Dutch striker arrived at Turf Moor on transfer deadline day, having completed a £12.6 million switch from Wolfsburg.

Despite bagging a creditable 59 goals in 118 Bundesliga appearances for his former side, Weghorst was far from a familiar name to English supporters when he agreed to make the switch to Lancashire.

The player raised his profile hugely on his home Premier League debut, though, helping Burnley secure a much-needed point with a Man of the Match display.

Sean Dyche's men fell behind on the night to a fine first-half strike from Paul Pogba. However, the hosts were level just two minutes into the second period, thanks in part to a piece of individual brilliance from Weghorst.

Turning United captain Harry Maguire with ease after a fantastic touch, Weghorst played a perfectly weighted through ball for Jay Rodriguez to equalise.

The new arrival remained bright throughout the remainder of the match, at one point forcing an impressive save from David de Gea as he tried his luck from outside the box.

While Weghorst's standout performance would have been very welcome among Burnley supporters, it would not have gone down so well with United Stand presenter Mark Goldbridge.

The United fan, known for his viral rants on social media, had previously encountered Weghorst during a FIFA 22 streaming session, when the striker's virtual equivalent scored against Goldbridge's side on the game.

His furious reaction to Weghorst scoring against him on FIFA re-emerged on Twitter in the build-up to this week's Premier League encounter - and it's even funnier to look back on now.

"Weghorst? That's not even a real name," raged Goldbridge after conceding.

"Wout Weghorst? You belong in a Harry Potter film.

"I've never heard of you in my b****y life. I'm losing to a Harry Potter character."

You can watch Goldbridge losing his mind over Weghorst's FIFA strike below. We reckon his reaction to the Dutchman mugging off Maguire for Burnley's equaliser on Tuesday would have been a whole lot worse.

United will consider the result at Turf Moor as two points dropped in their quest for Champions League football next season. For Burnley - and their new frontman - however, the point gained at United's expense could be crucial in the battle to beat the drop.
