According to journalist Tom Collomosse, there’s ‘definitely interest’ in LOSC Lille midfielder Renato Sanches from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 24-year-old was linked with a move to Molineux in the summer before a knee injury ended any hopes of securing a switch away from the reigning French champions.

What is the latest news involving Sanches?

According to Sky Sports, Wolves were in talks to bring Sanches to the club back in September before ending the negotiations after the two clubs failed to reach an agreement over a loan deal.

It’s believed that Lille refused to make any concessions in their demands following the 32-cap Portugal international’s fitness woes, resulting in him staying put for the current campaign.

However, in a recent interview with L'Equipe (as relayed by The Mirror), Sanches revealed how he is now ‘ready’ to take the next step in his development after rebuilding his career at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

But Wolves may have some fierce competition for the engine room operator’s signature, with Spanish outlet AS claiming Barcelona, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping close tabs on the player’s situation.

Sanches himself disclosed how the Gunners and AC Milan are interested in him, meaning it’s shaping up to be an intriguing summer for the former Golden Boy winner.

What has Collomosse said about Sanches?

With just 18 months remaining on his current contract and Lille needing to offload players to reduce their debt, Sanches - who is valued at £27m by Transfermarkt - is widely expected to be the next big-name to depart the club.

And Collomosse has stated how Wolves have not given up hope of snapping up the box-to-box dynamo.

He told GiveMeSport: “They'll still be following him, I think, for sure. I think the deal that Lille wanted to do, Wolves weren't happy with because of concerns about his fitness at the time, but there's definitely interest in the player there.”

Would Sanches be a good signing for Wolves?

Sanches burst onto the scene with Portugal in 2016, winning the European Championship and being named the Young Player of the Tournament before being likened to Clarence Seedorf.

A move from boyhood Benfica to Bayern Munich followed but he was unable to reproduce his best form in with the Bundesliga giants and was sold 12 months after a disastrous loan spell at Swansea City.

But Sanches has got his career back on track at Lille, playing a pivotal part in their first top-flight title in 10 years last term.

As per WhoScored, he has also been their top performer in 2021/22, highlighting the star quality he would bring to Wolves, should he complete the switch to the Midlands outfit.
