Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere would be a positive signing for West Brom, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The transfer window is currently closed, but Wilshere is a free agent, meaning that he could be snapped up between now and the summer.

What's the latest transfer news involving Wilshere?

The 30-year-old has been training with Mikel Arteta's Arsenal for some time now, but the 34-cap international admitted recently that the Spanish coach does not seem to want to offer him a playing contract.

Wilshere could be handed an opportunity by another club, though. It has been reported that new Baggies boss Steve Bruce is keeping a close eye on potential free agents that he could sign, and he is believed to be keen on bringing Wilshere to the Hawthorns.

What has O'Rourke said about Wilshere potentially joining West Brom?

Wilshere was released by Bournemouth last summer, and has not played a minute of first-team football this term.

However, O'Rourke thinks he could add something to West Brom's squad, as long as he arrived at the club in good condition.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O'Rourke said: “If he can prove his fitness, I’m sure he could be a good addition there, on the pitch and maybe off the pitch as well with his leadership qualities.”

Would Wilshere be a good signing for West Brom?

Signing Wilshere could be viewed as a gamble on West Brom's part given how long he has been out of action for.

His injury record has also been a major concern over the past decade as he has rarely been able to string a run of games together.

Still, it could be a risk worth taking by the club's new CEO, Ron Gourlay. After a promising start to the campaign, West Brom have fallen away badly over the last couple of months, and that led to them parting ways with Valerien Ismael at the start of February.

If they want to get their promotion push back on track, they may need to add someone to their squad who can provide a spark and lift the spirits at the club to get the team going again, and Wilshere could be that player.

Everyone is aware of Wilshere's qualities when he is in full flow, and if he can get back to anywhere near his best, he could be a major asset to Steve Bruce at West Brom.
