Kurt Zouma has been under-fire recently after a video emerged on social media of him mistreating his cats.
The Frenchman was condemned for his actions and many called for him to face punishment from West Ham.
Zouma was picked to play in West Ham's game against Watford, with David Moyes justifying his decision by saying the Frenchman was one of their best players.
He did not escape punishment, though, as he was fined two weeks' wages.
It is believed he earns £125,000-per-week and thus has been docked £250,000 by West Ham. The fine has been donated to animal welfare charities.
Following on from the fine, a report from the Daily Mail has claimed that the incident has caused unease in the squad.
They state that there is dissatisfaction among a clutch of players that Zouma earns significantly more than they do.
It is now clear that Zouma is West Ham's highest-paid player and they now face the prospect of players asking for sharp pay increases.

Bowen (£80,000-per-week) and Fornals (£79,000-per-week) make up the top five.
Rice is considered to be the east London side's best player but is only their ninth highest earning player at £62,000-per-week.
