Tottenham Hotspur fell 2-0 down to Wolves in the first half on Sunday after two awful defensive clangers.Antonio Conteâs side, beaten 3-2 by Southampton on Wednesday, were the architects of their own downfall, with Hugo Lloris at the centre of the mistakes.Spurs' defending in the last 10 minutes against the Saints, as they threw away a 2-1 lead to lose 3-2, was abject to say the least. And it will be of even more concern to Conte after he watched his side concede two in the space of 12 minutes against Wolves.
Jimenez scores Wolves' opener
Wolves' opener arrived in the sixth minute and Lloris won't want to watch it back.
The French goalkeeper had two opportunities to collect the ball but instead punched it straight to Raul Jimenez, who fired it home. Questions will be asked of Lloris and why it didn't just catch the ball.
Dendoncker makes it 2-0
Then in the 18th minute, pinball ensued in Tottenhamâs area after the hosts invited pressure by failing to clear. Leander Dendoncker was quickest to react and he made it 2-0.
Top four battle
Oh dear, Tottenham.
The Southampton defeat was preceded by a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea, and both defeats didn't help Spurs in their bid to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
Thankfully for Conte, it's a battle that looks set to go right down to the wire. Like the north London outfit, neither West Ham, Manchester United or Arsenal is playing with a lot of consistency right now.
However, with a meeting against Manchester City to come on the 19th, and United and West Ham in March, the games are too difficult for Spurs to come unstuck in matches they would expect three points from.
After the Southampton defeat, Conte said his team have to manage games better.
"For us, when I speak about the process, and I include this type of situation. During the game there are different phases, different parts of the game," the Italian said, per the Daily Mail.
"You need to have experience to manage, to understand when you have to risk something or, when you have to keep the result in the best possible way."
How about not falling 2-0 down at home in the opening 20 minutes?
