Cristiano Ronaldo is currently going through arguably the toughest spell in his career.

The Portuguese forward has not been at his best in his return to Manchester United this season.

Ronaldo was on a five-game goal-scoring drought going into the Red Devils' Premier League clash against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

And his goalless streak stretched to six games after he endured another frustrating game at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese forward was clearly trying his hardest but nothing came off for him.

The game eventually ended 1-1 as United's struggles continued.

Ronaldo has not yet hit the back of the net in 2022. The last time he scored was against Burnley on December 30.

Ronaldo is now 37 years old and he's clearly coming to the end of his career.

But one thing he's doing time and time again throughout his career is prove people wrong.

You can never write him off and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him banging in the goals again in the near future.

Ralf Rangnick spoke about Ronaldo's form after the draw against Southampton.

"He would have wished to score, I would have wished him to score, the whole team would have wished him to score," Rangnick said, per Manchester Evening News.

"I think today he had good chances, probably one of the biggest chances in the game was when he went around the goalkeeper and it was cleared off the line.

"He had good moments in the second-half. It's not only Cristiano, as a team we create enough chances, I would be more worried if we had one or two, or maybe three chances per game."

Ronaldo will next be in action for United against Brighton on Tuesday. You wouldn't bet against him being on the scoresheet once again.
