Journalist Tom Collomosse thinks Pedro Neto's injury may have actually helped Wolves out.

The 21-year-old picked up a serious knee injury last season that has kept him out until now, and Collomosse believes his lack of action has boosted Wolves' chances of keeping hold of their star.

How was Neto performing before his injury?

Neto was in excellent form for Wolves last season before damaging his knee cap in a 1-0 win against Fulham.

The £31.5m-rated Portuguese winger was directly involved in 11 goals in 31 league appearances and averaged two key passes per game (via WhoScored), showing the kind of attacking threat he brought to Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

That seemingly did not go under the radar, with 90min reporting that Liverpool, Juventus and Tottenham all ended up making enquiries about the player.

Neto remained at Molineux, though, with his injury obviously complicating things.

What has Collomosse said about Neto?

Had Neto not have got injured, Collomosse thinks the Portugal international would have attracted more interest going into this summer's transfer window.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Mail journalist said: "Oddly, I think his injury might have helped them hang on to him because I think if he had another season this season like last season, it would've been hard for them to keep him.

"If he can come back and he's anything like, yeah, he's an absolutely brilliant person to introduce because he's fresh as well."

Will Neto attract more interest in the future?

As Collomosse has said, if Neto had stayed fit and managed to replicate his form prior to injury this season, the likelihood is teams would have come knocking in the summer. In fact, they still could if he has a strong finish to the campaign.

To go with the attacking threat he brings to the final third, Neto has youth, not turning 22 until next month. He has the time and potential to develop into an even better player.

When you take all of that into account, it would be a surprise if the likes of Liverpool, Juventus and Tottenham did not look at Neto again.

Ultimately, if Neto can get back to the level he was at before his injury, it is probably going to be hard for Wolves to keep hold of the former Lazio and Braga man.

For now, though, he is a Wolves player and someone Bruno Lage will be desperate to have available given what he can bring to the team.
