According to journalist Dean Jones, a move for Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca has ‘definitely been explored’ by Tottenham Hotspur.

The north London outfit are believed to be in the market for a new forward as they look for some much-needed cover and competition for Harry Kane.

What is the latest news involving Scamacca?

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for former Fiorentina hitman Dusan Vlahovic during the January transfer window before he joined Serie A giants Juventus instead.

However, new manager Antonio Conte could still return to his homeland for a different in-form striker in the summer, with Scamacca believed to be on the Italian tactician’s radar.

According to reports by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by SportWitness), the 23-year-old has been identified as an alternative option to Vlahovic by the Spurs hierarchy.

Scamacca started to cultivate an enviable reputation for himself during a season-long loan spell at Genoa last term when he bagged 12 goals and provided two assists across 29 appearances in all competitions.

And the 6 foot 5 beast has carried that impressive form into the current campaign, racking up 10 goal contributions in just 25 outings.

What has Jones said about Scamacca?

Kane appeared set to complete a controversial switch to Premier League rivals Manchester City last summer before performing a dramatic U-turn and remaining at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The England international’s long-term future is still far from certain, though, and he remains the only natural striking option in Conte’s first-team squad.

But Jones has revealed that Scamacca is the sort of player who Spurs ‘would look at’ before claiming a deal for the target man has already been evaluated.

In an exclusive interview, he told GiveMeSport: “I think Scamacca is one that they would look at, it’s definitely been explored.”

Would Scamacca be a good signing?

Throughout his managerial career, Conte has often preferred to play with a tall, physical striker capable of bringing others into play and dragging his team up the pitch.

At Juventus he relied upon Fernando Llorente, at Chelsea it was Diego Costa and Romelu Lukaku picked up the mantle at Inter.

Regardless of whether Kane seeks a new challenge next season or not, Conte is likely to want some extra firepower available to him in order to help the 28-year-old out.

And Scamacca could prove to be a perfect fit for Conte’s style, with the sizeable attacker currently going from strength to strength.
