WWE is going to make a play to bring Stone Cold Steve Austin out of retirement for a huge WrestleMania match, a new report has claimed.

Stone Cold Steve Austin last wrestled at WrestleMania XIX in 2003 against The Rock, and remains one of the last wrestling legends to truly keep to his retirement.

However, if WWE gets its way, Austin is going to be making a comeback to wrestling in just over six weeks time.

WWE is always wanting to bolster its big shows, namely WrestleMania, and Steve Austin appears to be on higher-up's shortlist.

Fightful Select is reporting that the "backstage chatter" within WWE is that moves will be made to try and bring Austin in for a match at WrestleMania 38.

The report goes on to say that WWE "has made significant overture" to try and bring Austin back, given the show is in Texas, his home state.

In a shocking move, WWE backstage chatter suggests that WWE is going to attempt to get Stone Cold Steve Austin for a match at WrestleMania 38. Fightful has learned that WWE has made a significant overture towards one of the biggest draws in WWE history "Stone Cold" Steve Austin for an in-ring return at WrestleMania 38 in Dallas, Texas.

Fightful even notes that while some people within WWE they spoke to were "boy coy", others outright said that they think it's going to happen.

Those that we asked within WWE have had a range of responses, from being coy, to saying they assume it will happen

The site also reports that if this doesn't end up happening, and Austin doesn't end up actually wrestling a match, he is very much "expected for a physical role" on the show.
