Football fans around the world are buzzing for the return of the Champions League and the opportunity to witness some of Europe's greatest teams battle it out to be crowned the best.

The competition showcases some of the best talents in world football and allows fans to see how their team stacks up against the top teams from various leagues.

In the past, the tournament has treated us to some iconic encounters with many legendary players pitted against each other.

The round of 16 in this year's competition looks set to offer us more mouthwatering clashes with the likes of PSG vs Real Madrid, Inter Milan vs Liverpool and Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid.

If the thought of Neymar, Mbappe and Messi facing off against the likes of Vinicius Jr, Hazard and Bale doesn't get you excited as a football fan then something is seriously wrong.

But what better time to remind ourselves of some of the legendary encounters the competition has offered up in the past?

A BT Sport video released in 2020 titled "Four minutes of Champions League legends embarrassing other Champions League legends!" compiled some of the contests most iconic battles.

You can enjoy the full video in all its humiliating glory below.

The video proves that even the competition's most legendary players have endured moments they'd rather forget, which is unsurprising with the amount of quality on display.

The clip features legendary defenders such as Barcelona's Carles Puyol and Rafael Marquez being toyed with by Arsenal's Thierry Henry. And they aren't the only ones, as the Frenchman is also shown getting the better of the iconic Sergio Ramos.

You can see Manchester United's Paul Scholes' failure to shut down Argentina's little magician on the edge of his area. Messi can unsurprisingly be found multiple times in the video, also embarrassing James Milner with a cheeky nutmeg, and leaving Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng flat on his face.

And of course, you can't include clips of Messi without also featuring his counterpart Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo appears twice in the video, humiliating Yaya Toure and Koke in the process.

Going further back in time, the video includes two clips of the iconic Frenchman, Zinedine Zidane. The first of which shows him using his insane skills to escape Del Piero and Nedved, and in the second, he uses his quick feet to dance around Thuram.

Also featured are the likes of Iniesta, Neymar, Mbappe, Ronaldinho and many more Champions League legends.

BT Sports' video certainly has us excited about the prospect of what might arise in this year's round of 16 and beyond.
