Celtic are going to have to offer a ‘big package’ to prise striker Antoine Semenyo away from Bristol City, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Ange Postecoglou has made several exciting acquisitions since arriving at Parkhead last summer and could be set to continue the overhaul of his first-team squad in the summer.

What is the latest news involving Semenyo?

According to Bristol World, Craig Strachan, son of former Celtic boss Gordon, was sent on a scouting mission to assess Semenyo’s ability in their recent 2-1 victory over Reading.

The 22-year-old netted the opening goal against the Royals and has reportedly been attracting admiring glances from the Premier League following a string of eye-catching performances.

However, Robins boss Nigel Pearson has already issued a warning to any potential suitor, claiming his prized asset will cost ‘an awful lot of dough’.

"We're very glad we have him, and if somebody else wants him, he's going to cost them an awful lot of dough, so keep your hands off. We've got him for two-and-a-half years,” he said.

Semenyo currently has 18 months remaining on his current contract with the option to extend his stay by another 12 months, leaving Bristol in a strong position around the negotiating table.

What has Jones said about Semenyo?

The electric forward has established himself as one of the brightest prospects in the Championship after rising through the ranks at his boyhood club.

In 85 appearances for Bristol, Semenyo has scored 10 goals and provided 15 assists but he’s currently enjoying an extremely hot streak of form.

The youngster has racked up 11 goal contributions in his last 11 outings, and Jones believes any potential suitors could have to fork out a substantial figure to secure his signature.

He told GiveMeSport: “He’s on a really good deal at Bristol City. In the last window, there were clubs inquiring about him, and they were told he would cost around £15 million. It's going be a big package if they want to sign him.”

Do Celtic need another striker?

Postecoglou currently has an abundance of options available to him across his forward line.

Kyogo Furuhashi, Georgios Giakoumakis, Albian Ajeti and winter signings Johnny Kenny and Daizen Maeda are all capable of playing up front, providing the 56-year-old boss with a lot of tactical flexibility.

Therefore, the potential £15m outlay on Semenyo could perhaps be better spent on more pressing areas of concern within Celtic’s first-team squad.
