Celtic may struggle to find the funds required to persuade Bristol City into selling in-form striker Antoine Semenyo in the summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
The January window only closed a matter of weeks ago, but it appears Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou has already set his sights on welcoming further reinforcements to Parkhead at the end of the season.
What’s the latest news involving Semenyo?
Bristol World have revealed that senior Celtic scout Craig Strachan was sent to Ashton Gate to watch Semenyo in action against Reading last week.
The report suggests the Scottish Premiership title chasers are not the Bristol City frontman’s only suitors as Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest also pursued Semenyo prior to the January transfer window slamming shut.
Strachan will have been impressed with what he saw on his trip to the south-west of England as Semenyo grabbed the opener in his current employers’ 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers.
According to BristolLive, Nottingham Forest failed with a bid to sign Semenyo from their Championship rivals hours before last month’s deadline.
The report suggests the 22-year-old boasts a price tag in the region of £20million, meaning Celtic would have to shatter their transfer record to seal a deal.

What has Dean Jones said about Semenyo?
Jones has serious doubts over whether Semenyo will secure a switch to Celtic when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
The transfer insider believes the Bhoys may not be able to meet Bristol City’s demands in order to strike a deal.
However, he has not gone as far as to completely rule out the possibility of Postecoglou securing Semenyo’s services.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t know if they could afford him, to be honest.”
Why is Semenyo of interest to Celtic?
Semenyo may be in the early stages of his career, but he has already shown that he is a serious threat in the attacking third by finding the back of the net 16 times and providing 17 assists in 124 appearances.
Four of his five goals since the campaign got underway have come after the turn of the year, so he is clearly in fine form.
His goalscoring exploits resulted in Semenyo bagging the Championship Player of the Month award for January.
The former Newport County and Sunderland man has also been described as an ‘explosive talent waiting to burst into life’, further emphasising why Postecoglou is keen to link-up with Semenyo.
