Piers Morgan opened up a can of worms with his tweet about David Beckham during Sundayâs Super Bowl.Morgan tweeted: âGreat to watch a Beckham who can actually play footballâ¦â in reference to Los Angeles Ramsâ Odell Beckham Jr. To say he sparked an almighty debate would be an understatement. After Gary Lineker defending Beckham, Morgan replied: "You might want to suck up to him, for whatever reason, but Beckham was the most overrated player in history. Wouldn't have got onto the Arsenal Invincibles bench.âHe went on to say: "Take away the crossing & free-kicks, he was a fame-hungry snail with dumb haircuts who only won that much because of the truly great players around him.âWhatever you say, Piers. We donât want to sink to Piersâ level and argue Beckhamâs case. In fact, we donât really need to. Everything Beckham achieved in his career already does that.Instead, we want to just look at one assist in his career to highlight just how good Beckham really was.Youâve probably seen it already because many football fans consider it the âgreatest assist in football history.âAnd who are we to argue? It came during his Real Madrid days and it was a 50-yard pass that assisted Brazilian Ronaldo against Real Zaragoza. He picked up the ball near the right touchline, looked up and produced a quite incredible curled pass that floated in between two defenders and onto the foot of Ronaldo.What. A. Pass.Okay, Ronaldoâs finish was world class but the goal was all about the ball.
