Foxes latest news: Brendan Rodgers has an "issue" at Leicester but doesn't want to quit

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is being linked with Manchester United

Transfer insider Dean Jones reckons there’s an “issue” with Brendan Rodgers at Leicester, but he doesn’t want to quit the club.

The 49-year-old has come under pressure in recent weeks following a run of poor results, which have seen his Foxes side slip into the bottom-half of the Premier League and crash out of both cups.

What’s the latest news with Rodgers?

Having guided Leicester to consecutive fifth-place finishes and the FA Cup last May, Rodgers would have been hoping to go one better and get the Foxes back into the Champions League.

But this season is quickly turning into a disaster for the former Celtic and Liverpool boss, whose side are struggling in the Premier League and were recently dumped out of the FA Cup following a humiliating 4-1 exit at the hands of Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest.

Furthermore, Leicester failed to reach the knockout stages of the Europa League, only finishing third in their group, which means they slipped into the Europa Conference League.

Rodgers has been heavily linked away from Leicester in recent months, with firstly Tottenham keen before they appointed Nuno Espirito Santo last summer before Manchester United came calling following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in November.

But Jones believes that Rodgers’ problem is over the state of his squad rather than wanting to walk away because of their poor recent form.

What did Jones say about Rodgers?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “There is definitely an issue with Brendan Rodgers at Leicester but from what I understand his major frustration – more than wanting to quit – is that he feels this team needs an overhaul and that some of the current players need moving on.

“He’s told the board how he sees the situation but obviously he has also hit a wall with results, and you do wonder how this now plays out, with both club and man.”

Can Leicester still salvage something from this season?

Leicester might still have 16 Premier League games left to play, while they remain in Europe, but there’s little to be excited about.

Winning the third-tier competition would be their first ever European trophy and therefore a big deal, although they’re coming up against teams they’ll be expected to beat.

In terms of domestically, all the Foxes can do is try and finish as high as possible. They’re currently 11th, 12 points behind the top-six and are heading for their worst ever league finish under Rodgers, unless something drastically changes in the final third of the campaign.
