Tottenham Hotspur could benefit from head coach Antonio Conte sealing a reunion with Inter Milan midfielder Arturo Vidal in north London, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The transfer window may have only shut a matter of weeks ago, but it appears Conte is already making plans ahead of being able to welcome further reinforcements in the summer.

What's the latest news involving Vidal?

According to El Deportivo, via The Sun, Conte is monitoring Vidal's availability ahead of potentially making a move at the end of the campaign.

The report suggests Marseille and Galatasaray are also interested in the 34-year-old but Spurs may hold the upper-hand as Vidal is thought to have dreamt of playing in the Premier League before hanging up his boots.

Vidal's Inter contract - worth £86,000-per-week - is set to expire at the end of June, meaning he could be a cut-price option as Conte continues to look to put his stamp on the squad he inherited upon replacing Nuno Espirito Santo in the Tottenham dugout in November.

Spurs could already seal the Chilean's switch to north London by tying him down to a pre-contract agreement ahead of the campaign coming to a close.

But Tottenham are facing further competition from one of their Premier League rivals as, according to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Aston Villa have joined the race for Vidal's signature.

What has Dean Jones said about Vidal?

Jones understands some Spurs fans may be against the idea of Vidal swapping Inter for north London, potentially due to his disciplinary issues.

However, the transfer insider feels the central midfielder's antics could actually help Tottenham as they look to end their lengthy trophy drought.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I think, with Vidal, there will obviously be some concerns about signing a player like that and what he truly brings.

"But, certainly, it can be argued that the character side is something Tottenham could do with right now."

Why is Vidal of interest to Spurs?

Conte claimed 'you cannot buy the winning mentality' after Tottenham's 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, but clinching trophies is something Vidal is accustomed to.

The 131-cap Chile international has got his hands on the Copa America twice when representing his country and also bagged the domestic title in Italy, Spain, Germany and his homeland.

Conte is clearly a fan as he has previously signed Vidal during his time in charge of Italian giants Juventus and Inter, while Spurs managing director Fabio Paratici was also working behind-the-scenes at the former.

Vidal showed his threat in the final third of the pitch by recording 57 goal contributions in 141 appearances under Conte.
