Liverpool beat Inter Milan in their Champions League last-16 first leg tie at the San Siro on Wednesday evening.

The first half was a largely unentertaining one.

Inter came closest to breaking the deadlock with Hakan Çalhanoğlu striking the upright.

That proved to be the only real chance of the opening 45 minutes as the two sides went into the break all-square.

Jurgen Klopp decided to switch things up at half-time as he replaced Diogo Jota with Roberto Firmino.

And Firmino would prove to be the hero as he scored the opener for the Reds.

Liverpool were given a corner in the 75th minute. Andy Robertson swung the set-piece in and Firmino produced a quite phenomenal header which found the corner.

Watch the goal below...

What a brilliant header. Liverpool doubled their lead seven minutes later when Mohamed Salah found the back of the net.

A ball fell kindly to Salah inside the box and his deflected strike found the back of the net.

Per Opta, he's only the second player to score against both AC Milan and Inter Milan in the same Champions League season, after Peter Crouch for Tottenham in 2010-11.

Liverpool now go into the second leg at Anfield in three weeks time with a massive advantage. They are now the heavy favourites to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Inter have the quality to turn the tie around but it will take a monumental effort for them to go any further in the competition.
