Journalist Pete O'Rourke thinks that four players have stood out in Wolves' impressive 2021/22 Premier League campaign.

Under the tutelage of Bruno Lage, Wolves have put themselves in the mix for a European spot heading into the final third of the season.

How have Wolves fared this season?

Heading into the season, it was difficult to predict how Wolves would bounce back from their disappointing 13th-place finish last term.

Indeed, they hardly got off to the ideal start as they lost their opening three matches by the same 1-0 scoreline against Leicester, Tottenham and Manchester United.

They have turned things around remarkably well in the months since, though. Lage's men have conceded just 17 goals this season - only Manchester City (14) have shipped fewer in the top-flight.

This has left Wolves in seventh place ahead of this weekend's fixtures, and with a genuine chance of bringing European football back to Molineux.

What has O'Rourke said about Wolves?

O'Rourke has praised Wolves for their season to date, and has name-checked four players who have particularly caught the eye over the past six months.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Jose Sa has been a great signing in goal. One of the top performers between the sticks for Wolves this season. I think they’ve got quality all over their squad – Max Kilman, Conor Coady, Ruben Neves.”

Can Wolves maintain their form between now and the end of the season?

The Midlands club are flying at the moment, having won four of their five league matches in 2022. This has included picking up away victories at United and Spurs.

While teams around them in the table have stuttered in recent weeks, Wolves appear to be gathering momentum at just the right time.

Lage may have some concerns about his side's lack of goals - Wolves are comfortably the lowest scorers in the top half, as things stand.

However, from a defensive perspective, they have been exceptional, with Sa, Kilman and Coady holding things together at the back, helping the team keep nine clean sheets in their 23 league games.

Bearing this in mind, Wolves may fancy their chances of continuing to grind out wins in the final months of the season, and this could be enough to earn them a top-seven finish come May.
