Rangers will only tempt Connor Goldson into extending his stay at Ibrox if they are willing to meet his wage demands as he is 'seeing what offers are out there', according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Goldson completed a £3million move to the reigning Scottish Premiership champions from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2018, but there are major question marks over where his long-term future lies.

What's the latest news involving Goldson?

Goldson's current Rangers contract, worth £27,000-per-week, is set to expire at the end of the season.

It would appear the central defender sees his future elsewhere as Football Insider revealed in December that Goldson had rejected the offer of a fresh deal.

The report suggests the 29-year-old is eager to return south of the border and join a club in the Premier League.

However, Rangers have not given up hope as managing director Stewart Robertson told Sky Sports the club are 'not resigned to losing' Goldson.

Robertson also revealed sporting director Ross Wilson has been in regular dialogue with the Gers' stars whose contracts will run out in the coming months.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Goldson?

O'Rourke believes Rangers will only succeed in convincing Goldson to remain at Ibrox if they commit to offering a lucrative contract.

The journalist feels the central defender is in a strong negotiating stance as he knows there will be offers on the table if he opts to leave the blue half of Glasgow.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "It all comes down to money. Goldson's in a good position with his contract expiring and he'll be, obviously, listening and seeing what other offers are out there for him.

"That is his entitlement with his contract situation at Ibrox."

Who could Goldson join if he leaves Rangers?

The Scottish Sun revealed last month that Championship promotion chasers Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion are keen to tie Goldson down to a pre-contract agreement.

Due to entering the final six months of his contract, the 6 ft 3 ace is able to hold discussions with clubs outside of Scotland and the report suggests the Midlands duo are Goldson's strongest suitors.

The Daily Record, via Ibrox News, have previously claimed a reunion with former Gers boss Steven Gerrard could be on the cards at Aston Villa.

Gerrard quit Rangers in favour of taking over as the Premier League side's head coach in November and he handed Goldson 182 appearances during his reign.

They helped the Glasgow giants to win their first Scottish Premiership title in a decade last season.
