It is hard to forget how good of a UFC fighter Anderson Silva was and his KO of Forrest Griffin is just a reflection of his ability and tenacity once in the Octagon. His accolades just show best what he was capable of with him holding the record for the longest title reign in UFC history at 2,457 days, which lasted from 2006 until 2013 – this period consisted of 16 consecutive UFC victories.Silva, also known as “The Spider” boasts an impressive record of 34-11, winning 23 of the 34 wins by KO, including when he and Griffin faced off in 2009.This matchup against Griffin was viewed as a fight that shared similarities with David and Goliath – Silva’s supernatural skill set him head and shoulders above other fighters, with him even becoming bored of the competition as UFC champion.Griffin was basically used as a body bag during his bout, but his pride shone through as he never backed down and continued his fighting career and became successful. Although not ideal, being overwhelmed by the Brazilian fighter is nothing to be embarrassed of – some even would consider it an honour to compete against one of the greatest fighters in the history of the MMA.PHILADELPHIA - AUGUST 08: (Top) Anderson Silva battles Forrest Griffin during their light heavyweight bout at UFC 101: Declaration at the Wachovia Center on August 8, 2009 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Jon Kopaloff/Getty Images)The most impressive feature of the fight was captured beautifully in slow motion. Silva showed his ability to dodge punches and judge when was best to counter his opposition.Griffin’s pre-fight mentality surprisingly showed he knew what was bound to happen once the door of the Octagon closed and it was just him, Silva and the referee. Unfortunately for Griffin, this performance has been deemed as one of the best in combat sport.

Silva was able to stay light on his feet whilst moving backwards, as punches were being thrown from all angles. The former champ’s chances to sit Silva down was matched by only being able to catch air when putting together combinations.

A tenacious jab by Silva proved to be deadly when it caught Griffin in the opening round of the fight.

A punch so powerful and aligned that Griffin escaped as soon as he was back on his feet as he refused to partake in any of the post-fight ceremonies. Definitely a night to forget for UFC Hall of Famer Forrest Griffin.
