The 2021/22 Premier League has already been a wild ride.

With Liverpool newly thrust back into the title race upon Manchester City's dramatic defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, there's a new blood-pump of electricity and excitement pulsing through the competition.

However, regardless of who goes on to lift the coveted prize come May, we've seen enough from the last six months of action already to get a pretty idea about who the season's top performers have been.

From the mazy wonder goals of Mohamed Salah to the jack-of-all-trades talents of Joao Cancelo, there are no shortage of superstars who come to mind when you think about 2021/22's standout players.

As such, here at GIVEMESPORT, we wanted to take something of a different look at the Premier League's best performers of the current campaign by looking at the currency of Man of the Match awards.

Besides, seeing who has been the player to rule them all in the most games this season is both a unique and telling metric for establishing which ballers have been the most dominant since August.

Nevertheless, as you may well be aware, there are countless publications, broadcasters and sources who dish out MOTM prizes, so we're turning to the statistics to keep things as consistent and objective as possible.

That's where WhoScored come into things because we'll be using their MOTM criteria to see which Premier League players have bagged the most awards this season - and the results are certainly interesting.

In fact, if we do say so ourselves, they're additionally interesting for the fact that we're displaying the players in the form of a starting XI to ensure that the most prolific MOTM winners in each position are rewarded.

It's crazy to think that a goalkeeper has the joint-most MOTM awards of any Premier League player this season, but that's just how good Sa has been as arguably the best signing of the year.

DF: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 4

Ten assists. Need we say more? Ok, maybe, because the world needs to know that Alexander-Arnold is back on his throne as the best right-back in the business right now.

DF: Mohammed Salisu (Southampton) - 3

The only centre-back in the division with more than two MOTM awards, Salisu has been the standout player in more games than Virgil van Dijk, Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Ruben Dias this season.

DF: Joao Cancelo (Manchester City) - 3

Another entirely unsurprising selection because Cancelo, regardless of how many MOTM awards he might have won, would be nailed on to win the major PFA and FWA prizes if it wasn't for Mr. Salah.

RM: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) - 6

Speaking of which, the Liverpool superstar seems guaranteed to hoover up individual silverware come the end of the season and might even bag the Ballon d'Or to boot if he can maintain his dizzying form.

CM: Conor Gallagher (Crystal Palace) - 4

If Sa isn't everyone's pick for the signing of the season, then Gallagher should be your man because the Chelsea loanee can add four MOTM awards to his seven goals and three assists for good measure.

CM: Mason Mount (Chelsea) - 4

If anything, Mount has been a victim of just how incredible he was last season because the fact that he's declined ever so slightly doesn't make his 2021/22 campaign any less impressive.

CM: Leandro Trossard (Brighton & Hove Albion) - 4

Let's remember for a second that only Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea have lost fewer league games than Brighton this season and the data shows that Trossard has played a massive role in that.

LM: Adama Traore (Wolverhampton Wanderers) - 4

Should this count when he's not even a Premier League player at the moment? Technically, yes, because he's still bagged the second-most MOTM awards in the competition of anyone out wide.

Well, the Barcelona star is actually level on four MOTM awards with Jarrod Bowen, but his greater experience with playing on the left and fewer appearances this season sees him sneak into the XI.

This just feels so right, doesn't it? Saint-Maximin has been a shining light for Newcastle through their highest of highs and lowest of lows, almost single-handedly dragging them along with his dazzling football.

2021/22 Premier League heroes

So, it's fair to say that the MOTM XI isn't what you'd pick as the strongest Premier League line-up possible, even simply in regards to this season, but there's no denying that it's very strong.

Fans won't be surprised to see Salah, Gallagher, Cancelo and Sa making the cut considering their stupendous 2021/22 form, but the likes of Mount, Trossard and Salisu are bound to raise eyebrows.

However, whether you like it or not, the simple fact of the matter is that the data point towards them having dominated the most Premier League games this season compared to other players in their position.
