Riddle and Brock Lesnar may have worked together at WWE Elimination Chamber over the weekend, but things haven’t always been rosy between the pair.
During his days in NXT, Riddle would regularly call out Brock Lesnar in interviews, even saying that he wanted to be the one to retire the former UFC star.
The comments didn’t sit well with Brock Lesnar, and reports have claimed that the pair got into it backstage at the Royal Rumble in January 2020.
During the show, Ryan Satin reported that Lesnar approached Riddle backstage, making it clear that this wasn’t part of a storyline for the show.
Satin explained that the pair got into a verbal altercation backstage at the event, with Lesnar wanting to let Riddle know of the “reality of the situation between them”.
Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned Brock Lesnar and Matt Riddle got into a backstage verbal altercation prior to Royal Rumble. Details are scarce at this time, but sources tell us Lesnar and Riddle passed each other while walking backstage and a tense encounter ensued. One source says Brock saw Matt and wanted him to know the reality of the situation between them.
This was followed up by a report from Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, who provided more details about the interaction between Riddle and the former Universal Champion.
McCarthy explained that Lesnar approached Riddle, grabbing his shoulder in order to get his attention.
Lesnar told Riddle to stop mentioning him and tagging him in things on social media, stressing that the pair would never work together, which they did end up doing two years later.
According a WWE official, Lesnar is said to have approached Riddle backstage and grabbed his shoulder to get his attention. Then, Lesnar said: “Kid, you might as well stop saying my name and tagging me in sh*t because you and I will never work together. Ever.”
The report also notes that Riddle tried to talk to Brock Lesnar, but he wasn’t exactly in the mood, and looked to move on from the conversation as soon as possible.
In a subsequent interview with talkSPORT, Riddle confirmed that Lesnar did tell him the pair would never work together, which you can read more about by clicking here.
Riddle made reference to the reports on social media this weekend, using the classic “never say never” line while commenting on a video of Brock Lesnar hitting him with an F5 at Elimination Chamber.

As of right now, it’s unclear whether or not Brock Lesnar and Riddle have spoken about their issues since January 2020 and made up.
However, Riddle has started tagging Brock Lesnar less in social media posts, and rarely ever mentions him in interviews, so perhaps this is why the pair have now worked together.
As of right now, it remains unclear whether or not Riddle and Lesnar will ever have a one-on-one match together, but with both being top stars in WWE, it isn’t exactly out of the question.
