Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Brock Lesnar were supposed to have a huge dream match at WWE WrestleMania XXX in 2014, but it didn't end up happening.

Every year for WrestleMania, its biggest show of the year, WWE will look to book the biggest matches possible between its biggest stars.

That often involves bringing back Superstars of yesteryear, with John Cena, Goldberg and The Undertaker all being brought in for huge matches over the last few years.

However, WWE's attempts to bring its former top stars back doesn't always result in them actually appearing, as we saw in 2014.

For WrestleMania XXX, WWE wanted to have Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson go one-on-one with Brock Lesnar.

The year prior, at WrestleMania XXIX, The Rock tore his abdomen during his WWE Championship loss to John Cena, meaning he was able to appear on Monday Night Raw the following night.

If he was able to make the show, plans saw The Rock getting attacked by Brock Lesnar, which would have set up a match between the two at the following year's show.

The injuries that The Rock sustained also meant that he had to delay filming for the Hercules movie, with the studio understandably being quite unhappy about that.

This meant that due to Rocky's busy filming schedule, linked with the potential of him picking up an injury, WWE had to scrap its plans for the huge match.

Dave Meltzer spoke about the matter at the time, explaining that the plans were in place for Rock vs. Lesnar at the big show in 2014.

“The Rock was going to star WrestleMania in 2014 with Brock Lesnar and, in fact, they were going to kick off the rivalry with an angle where Lesnar completely destroyed him on the Raw the day after WrestleMania 29 in 2013, but Rock was injured"

As can be seen, The Rock outright confirmed in a Q&A on New Year's Eve in 2013 that he was supposed to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX.

He did end up appearing on the show, just in a non-wrestling capacity, opening up proceedings with Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

At WrestleMania XXX, instead of facing The Rock, Brock Lesnar ended up breaking The Undertaker's undefeated winning streak, which isn't exactly the worst replacement.
