Rangers 'in difficult position' with Joe Aribo

Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst are in a “difficult position” with midfielder Joe Aribo and could be forced to sell him this summer, says journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 25-year-old will have just one year to run on his contract after the end of this season, and that seems to have alerted multiple Premier League clubs.

What is the latest news involving Aribo?

Aribo’s contract is running down and he looks no closer to extending it as outfits from English football’s top flight circle.

According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are one Premier League side who are interested in signing the Nigerian in a £10m deal this summer.

Their report states that he is being eyed to fill the void that will be left by Conor Gallagher, who is expected to return to Chelsea after the conclusion of his loan spell at Selhurst Park.

Prior, Aribo had also been linked with Brentford and Watford, so the likelihood is that he will not be short of suitors if he does decide to leave Ibrox at the end of the season.

What has O’Rourke said about Aribo and Rangers?

Given his contract situation, O’Rourke has told GIVEMESPORT that Rangers may have no choice but to sell Aribo in the summer transfer window.

“Rangers are in a difficult position here,” the transfer insider said to GMS. “Come the summer, if Aribo is not going to sign a new deal, they’re going to have to probably look to cash in on him.”

Will Aribo end up moving to the Premier League?

It looks inevitable, with his former coach Mark Fabian telling the Daily Record back in December that he can see it happening.

“I’m not surprised there is huge interest in him. I always thought he’d end up in the Premier League one day,” Fabian said. “But speaking to him not long ago I know he’s really happy at Rangers.

“The speculation about his future doesn’t bother him and he admits himself he doesn’t give it a second thought while it’s just talk.”

Ally McCoist

Which club did Ally McCoist start his career with?

With Watford at risk of getting relegated, that is one team Rangers may not actually have to worry about come the summer.

However, Brentford look on course for Premier League survival and, again, Palace will need someone to replace Gallagher, so it really would not be a shock if either came in for Aribo.

Ultimately, unless the Nigeria international signs a new deal, it is hard to imagine him remaining at Ibrox beyond this campaign.
