Tottenham injury news: Oliver Skipp could return to action against Leeds this weekend

Journalist Paul Brown reckons that Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp could return to action for the trip to Leeds this weekend.

The 21-year-old has missed the last four games, including the sensational victory at Manchester City, through injury and is expected to remain on the sidelines for the game against Burnley tomorrow.

What happened to Skipp?

It’s been a productive first proper campaign in the Tottenham first-team for the midfielder, who’s made 28 appearances across all competitions, although he’s currently going through a testing period.

Skipp had featured in 18 of Spurs’ first 20 Premier League games this season, but he suffered a groin problem in January, which has kept him out of the last four fixtures.

Do you know this obscure player Tottenham signed in the January transfer window?

According to the Evening Standard, Skipp’s injury has become infected, and Tottenham don’t want him to return to training until the issue has cleared up. Therefore, he’s likely to sit out the trip to Turf Moor on Wednesday night.

But Brown is confident that Skipp could play some part in Spurs’ next top-flight game after Burnley, with Antonio Conte’s side travelling to Leeds on Saturday lunchtime.

What did Brown say about Skipp?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think his injury is taking longer than people thought, definitely. But we’re told there’s a chance he could be back this weekend.”

Who’s likely to start against Burnley in Skipp’s absence?

With Skipp unavailable and Tanguy Ndombele sold in January, Conte has very limited options in the heart of midfield.

He could opt to freshen up his side and recall Harry Winks to the starting XI, especially with another long away trip to Middlesbrough to come on Tuesday. But given the performances of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur against City, it’s unlikely that either of those are dropped from the side.

Therefore, Winks is surely going to start the game on the bench once again, unless Conte decides to change his formation and drop Dejan Kulusevski, which would be harsh after his own display at the Etihad Stadium, and ends up switching to a 3-5-2, with an extra body in midfield.
