Aston Villa signing Philippe Coutinho for £25m would be "good business", according to former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer.

The 29-year-old is currently on loan at Villa, who have the option to buy him permanently from Barcelona in the summer.

What is the latest news involving Coutinho?

According to Birmingham Live, Barcelona could be prepared to sell Coutinho to Villa in the next transfer window for just £25m.

The agreement that is currently thought to be in place is a £33m buy option, but Birmingham Live claims that the attacking midfielder could now be sold for cheaper.

Coutinho has had no trouble readjusting to English football again, so it would come as no surprise if Villa took up their option to sign him permanently be it for £33m or £25m.

In five appearances, the Brazilian has come up with four goal contributions, which includes a strike on his debut against Manchester United.

What has Palmer said about Coutinho?

For Palmer, if Villa can get Coutinho for £25m, it would be good business.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the ex-Leeds United and Southampton player said: "For £25m, in today's market, that's good business. He's a top player and he's only going to get better as he adjusts to the pace of the game, so it's good business at 25 million, for sure."

Should Villa sign Coutinho permanently?

Given the impact that he has already had, £25m could be a real snip for Villa, so they really should be putting this one on their to-do list.

Manager Steven Gerrard, who played with Coutinho during their time at Liverpool together, is obviously also a huge fan of the player.

"If you don't like watching Philippe Coutinho then you should stop watching football because that [performance] was absolutely beautiful," the Villa boss recently said after his side's exciting 3-3 draw with Leeds United.

In the following games, Coutinho was unable to make the same kind of impact, but Villa have been poor as a whole, losing to both Newcastle United and Watford.

Overall, though, Gerrard and Villa supporters will be pleased with what they have seen from Coutinho so far. If the Brazil international keeps it up, then you would expect the Midlands club to buy him at the end of the season.

It did not work out at Barcelona, with this now being Coutinho's second loan since joining the Spanish giants back in 2018. But things are going well at Villa, so perhaps everyone could end up winning here.
