Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge reckons that Ryan Sessegnon needs a long run in the side to prove himself at Tottenham – and has urged Antonio Conte to start him tonight.

Spurs travel to Burnley hoping to build on their impressive victory over Manchester City last time out.

What's the latest news involving Sessegnon?

It's been another difficult season for the 21-year-old, but he is getting more minutes than ever before in a Tottenham career.

His start at City on Saturday was his fourth in the last nine Premier League games. Three of those have been against the current top-three, highlighting exactly how much Conte trusts the left-sided attacker, who joined for £25m from Fulham in 2019.

However, Sessegnon still hasn't started consecutive games since January 2020, with Sergio Reguilon still widely seen as Conte's first-choice left wing-back.

But the Spaniard missed the 3-2 victory over Pep Guardiola's side having returned a positive Covid-19 test and isn't expected to be available in time for the clash at Turf Moor.

Should Reguilon miss out, Sessegnon is in line for another start, and Bridge wants Conte to pick him instead of Matt Doherty, who's played on the left four times this season despite the 27-cap Republic of Ireland international being right-footed.

What did Bridge say about Sessegnon?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "My hope for Sessegnon is, he has a few games and gets a good run. If Reguilon is out Wednesday, just keep playing him. Doherty is not a left wing-back, Doherty playing left wing-back, you might as well go home, it's a waste of time."

How did Sessegnon perform against Manchester City?

It was another steady display from Sessegnon, who was Spurs' 10th-best player on the day according to WhoScored.

That perhaps didn't do his performance justice, though. Sessegnon not only made two tackles and two clearances, but more than held his own up against the likes of Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and then Riyad Mahrez, while still managing to influence proceedings in an attacking sense.

Having galloped forward midway through the second half, Sessegnon retrieved possession before finding Heung Min Son to his left and his inch-perfect cross allowed Harry Kane to stroke home his first and Spurs' second on the night.

It was another careful performance from the youngster, but considering it was probably one of the biggest days of his football career, he didn't go hiding and put in a huge defensive shift which should give him some confidence moving forward.
