Floyd Mayweather Jr is the greatest boxer of all-time.

He’s never been defeated in the ring, boasts a totally ludicrous pro record of 50-0 and has won multiple titles across five different weight classes, making him no less than a 15x time world champion.

He is the GOAT. And it’s not just his record but the calibre of opponent that he’s faced throughout his career…

Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, they’ve all felt the keen sting of ‘Money Mayweather.’

However, being the entrepreneur that Mayweather is, he’s tossed his hat into the ring for many different ventures throughout his career… so long as they have a tasty enough pay-check waiting for him at the end that is.

Which takes us onto his blockbuster spell with the WWE franchise back in 2008.

After coolly dispatching of Ricky Hatton by TKO in the December of 2007, Mayweather announced that he would be taking a break from the ring to focus on developing his Money Team brand.

Floyd Mayweather

But fans didn’t have to wait long before Floyd was filling their TV screens once again, this time at the No Way Out PPV in February 2008.

The Big Show, having been out of the WWE for over a year, made his return by attacking an injured Rey Mysterio and then holding him in the direction of Floyd, taunting the American boxing legend:

“Do you wanna help him? You wanna do something?”

The Big Show then took Mysterio into the ring and was about to execute a vicious choke slam before an incensed Mayweather jumped the ropes and squared up to the 7ft beast.

With Mayweather standing at 5ft 8inches, his team clearly thought better of it and successfully held ‘Money’ back.

The Big Show took this as the perfect opportunity to goad the boxing superstar, dropping to his knees to mock his height.

But Mayweather broke free and landed a series of strikes to the head, breaking the Big Show’s nose in the process.

The pair would then meet in a No Disqualification match at WrestleMania - the showpiece event of the WWE calendar – where the boxer would reign victorious after using a pair of brass knuckles to punch in the head of his nemesis.

Speaking about the matter on The Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast in 2017, the Big Show said:

“I told Floyd to break my nose that night. If he didn’t our angle would have been dead in the water.

“It’s just the size disparity. I was trying to do something different than a normal wrestling angle, so this is an opportunity with a trained professional, who I trusted, and this is one of the greatest fighters who ever boxed.

“I’d spent a whole year messing around the ring boxing, so I knew he knew how to break my nose without shoving it through the back of my head. It was awesome.”

And the Big Show’s plan certainly worked a treat, as he remained one of the WWE’s biggest stars until he left for the AEW franchise in 2021.

The series of events will forever be remembered as some of the craziest in WWE history.
