Transfer insider Dean Jones reckons Harry Kane's display against Manchester City was everything the Tottenham striker would have dreamed about after his failed move to the Etihad Stadium last summer.

Kane was involved in a transfer saga with the Premier League champions in 2021 and came back to haunt Pep Guardiola's side by scoring an injury-time winner on Saturday.

What happened against Manchester City?

In one of the standout games of the Premier League season, Antonio Conte's Tottenham mustered up possibly their best performance in his tenure to get back to winning ways in stunning fashion and ripped up the form book in the process.

City were unbeaten in the league since October, while Spurs had just lost consecutive home games to Southampton and Wolves.

Dejan Kulusevski, on his full debut in English football, got the ball rolling when he stroked home Heung Min Son's pass after Kane had exquisitely put the South Korean in behind the City defence.

Ilkay Gundogan equalised before the break after capitalising on a Hugo Lloris error, but then Kane took centre stage to put Tottenham 2-1 ahead following another assist from Son.

Soon after, Kane was celebrating his second, although there had been an offside in the build up and he was denied.

Riyad Mahrez thought he'd rescued a point for City with an added-time penalty, but Spurs and Kane weren't to be denied when he headed home Kulusevski's cross right at the last to get his side back on track in their fight to finish in the top four.

According to WhoScored, it was Kane's second-best performance of the season behind Leicester, and Jones doesn't think that's much coincidence given his summer saga with Manchester City.

What did Jones say about Kane?

When asked whether Kane was sending Pep Guardiola a message, he told GIVEMESPORT: "It obviously motivates you when you're put into a situation like that. To pull off a 10/10 performance at the same time is everything you dream of as a player that wants to put himself up for auction."

Are City likely to be interested in signing Kane this summer?

When quizzed about Kane after the game, Guardiola simply said "forget it, it's in the past".

He would go on to praise the Tottenham striker by stating that the whole of the UK already know how good he is, but the City boss wasn't giving anything away in regard to his club revisiting a move for Kane at the end of this season.

Kane wants to assess his options before deciding on his future, but after that fine Etihad showing, he'll surely still be on City's wish list.
