Khabib Nurmagomedov would beat Georges St-Pierre in a grappling match, according to his long-time coach Javier Mendez.

Nurmagomedov, 33, announced his retirement from mixed martial arts shortly after his second-round submission victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in October 2020.

But 'The Eagle' has kept himself in phenomenal shape having taken up the position of assistant coach at the American Kickboxing Academy MMA gym in San Jose, California.

And while he has ruled himself out of a return to the octagon, Mendez revealed he is still dominating other fighters on the mats.

“He’s grappling now, he kills everybody," Mendez told Submission Radio.

“That guy is still killing everybody. Everybody. He’s heavier though.

"But he’s killing everybody more dominantly than when he was lighter, and he kills everybody bro – everybody.”

St-Pierre, 40, claimed that Dana White offered him a super-fight with Khabib after blocking him from boxing Oscar De La Hoya, but the bout ultimately never came to fruition.

When asked what would happen if the two ever grappled with each other, Mendez, who has previously coached the likes of Daniel Cormier, Luke Rockhold and Cain Velasquez, added: "That would be interesting.

"That would be fun to watch.

“Khabib is going to dominate him just like he does everybody else.

"That’s what I expect. I expect nothing less from him. I’ve never seen him not dominate anybody.”

However, Nurmagomedov was quick to shut down the idea, as he insists the time has now passed.

During an Instagram fan Q&A, he said: “I don’t see the point in it.

"You can, of course, add fuel to the fire, say something, but I don’t want to.

"I don’t want to promote this topic. ‘Oh, I could return to Eagle FC,’ I don’t want to make it.

" I want to make PR for league in another format. I don’t think that I’ll return - wrestle with someone. Let others wrestle, who need it.

"Do I need it? In this life, we are not allowed to do everything we want. Your desire may not coincide with what you will do.

"You can just want it and that’s it. Does it make sense now to talk about my hunger? I do not see the point.”
