Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to be giving David de Gea goalkeeper advice during the second half of Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

Atletico dominated the opening 45 minutes at the Wanda Metropolitano and deservedly went into half-time with a 1-0 lead thanks to Joao Felix’s early header.

Diego Simeone’s side also looked the better team during the early stages of the second half and there was a curious moment between Ronaldo and De Gea when the visitors were defending another attack.

Ronaldo, who was visibly frustrated for large periods of the match, was seen making a beeline for De Gea before having words with his goalkeeper.

What did Cristiano Ronaldo say to David de Gea?

Was the legendary Portuguese forward unhappy with De Gea’s reluctance to claim crosses? His distribution?

Whatever the reason, De Gea appeared to take Ronaldo’s words of wisdom onboard.

Let’s check out some of the reaction from fans on social media:

Ronaldo, who has punished Atletico on numerous occasions throughout his illustrious career but was unable to make a significant contribution on Wednesday evening, looked unhappy as he left the pitch - even though United managed to salvage a draw thanks to Anthony Elanga’s late equaliser.

What did Cristiano Ronaldo say after Atletico 1-1 Man Utd?

However, he posted a positive message on Instagram after the match.

“Always a great feeling to be back in Madrid,” Ronaldo wrote, “one of the few cities in the world that I‘ve learned to call ‘home’. Great feelings, great players, great game, this is Champions League! The mother of all club competitions!

“Now we have the opportunity to close this for us in our stadium, showing everybody why Old Trafford is and will always be The Theatre Of Dreams. Last but not least, thanks to our amazing supporters! Your presence make us stronger, and together we will go forward! Let’s go, Devils!”
