Wolves defender Max Kilman is one of the best defenders in the Premier League at the moment, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 24-year-old has firmly established himself in Bruno Lage's back three this term, and his performances have not gone unnoticed.

How has Kilman fared at Wolves this season?

Kilman featured in just 18 league matches last season under Nuno Espirito Santo, but he has become an ever-present at the back since Lage arrived at Molineux in the summer.

The Midlands club have one of the best defensive records in the top-flight in 2021/22, and Kilman has certainly played his part in their success.

Heading into the final third of the season, Wolves are in the mix for a European place, and could even potentially break into the top four if they finish the campaign strongly.

Meanwhile, Kilman has been attracting interest from elsewhere, with Chelsea reportedly monitoring the 6 foot 5 centre-back.

What has Jones said about Kilman?

Jones has praised Kilman's consistency, and feels the Englishman could be in line for his maiden England call-up next month.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “Debatably, he’s England’s most in-form defender right now. He’s been so good for so long that he’s genuinely one of the best defenders in this country. Even though he hasn’t been in the England team, he will become part of that conversation.”

Will Kilman make Gareth Southgate's England squad in March?

England have a pair of friendlies in March as they will be taking on Switzerland and Ivory Coast at Wembley. Kilman must surely be knocking on the door to be named in the squad.

In recent years, Gareth Southgate has been loyal to Harry Maguire and John Stones. However, Maguire's form for Manchester United has been questioned at times this season, while Stones has had to wait patiently for opportunities at Manchester City over the past six months.

Conor Coady has also been a regular in the England setup, but Kilman has arguably outperformed his teammate at club level over the course of the campaign.

Furthermore, Tyrone Mings, who represented England at last summer's European Championships, has been part of an Aston Villa defence that has shipped far more goals than Wolves.

Taking all this into consideration, March's friendlies could be the right time to bring Kilman into the fold, with the World Cup now just nine months away.
