WWE has confirmed that the blockbuster SmackDown Women’s Championship match between Charlotte and Ronda Rousey will main event night one of this year’s WrestleMania. Rousey made her much-anticipated return to the WWE ring at the Royal Rumble in January, having last appeared for the company at WrestleMania 35 in 2019. On that night, she was part of the main event alongside Flair and Becky Lynch, which was eventually won by The Man. The former UFC star won the Rumble to guarantee herself a title shot at this year’s Mania and later announced on Smackdown that she owed an “a** beating” to Flair. There was some debate over whether Rowdy would choose to fight Raw Women’s Champion Lynch, but Big Time Becks will instead fight Bianca Belair. Rousey’s clash with Charlotte will headline the first night of WrestleMania this year, making it the second Mania in succession a women’s match has been the main event after Belair beat Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 37.

The event will take place in Texas at the AT&T Stadium, having last been held at this venue in 2016. On that occasion, Charlotte defeated Banks and Lynch to win the inaugural WWE Women’s Championship.

Six years on and Charlotte’s match against Rousey has the potential to match or even better any of the great women’s contests we’ve seen at Mania over the years.

Tensions between the two are already beginning to rise as Rousey teamed with Naomi to defeat Flair and Sonya Deville at Elimination Chamber last week.

Rousey was required to wrestle with one arm behind her back but still managed to get the win by submitting Deville.

While Rowdy’s match with Flair is the main event on night one in Texas, Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns looks set to headline night two.

This will be the third time Reigns has fought Lesnar in the main event at Mania. In 2015 the pair were interrupted by Seth Rollins, who cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and emerged victorious. Three years later, it was Lesnar who came out on top.

Other matches that are confirmed for WrestleMania this year include a tag team match, featuring Dominik and Rey Mysterio vs Logan Paul and the Miz.

WrestleMania 38 will take place on April 2nd and 3rd and can be watched on the WWE Network or via BT Sport Box Office.
