According to overnight reports, Cesaro has left WWE after failing to agree new terms on a new contract.

The Swiss’ Superman has endured a stop-start career in WWE, with many fans believing he’s been one of the most underutilized talents on the roster. However, the 41-year-old has still chalked up multiple title reigns across the tag team and Intercontinental/US Title divisions and given fans a host of memorable moments in his eleven years on the roster - and more entrance themes then possible any Superstar has ever had.

GiveMeSport looks back at some of his best bits as we say farewell to the Ceasro section of the WWE Universe.

Giant win

Cesaro had already tasted title success as United States Champion and a tag team run with Jack Swagger as part of The Real Americans when he appeared in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX. The night had already seen Cesaro sever ties with his tag team partner in the fallout to the pre-show’s Fatal-Four-Way tag match, and the Swiss star already had eyes on singles stardom. That stardom was instant, as Cesaro body slammed Big Show - in a manner not too dissimilar from Hulk Hogan’s famous body slam of Andre The Giant at WrestleMania III - out of the match to win the battle royal and become the first-ever victor of the annual event. Unfortunately, the springboard to that victory and the subsequent pairing with Paul Heyman the following night on Raw, never really materialised and has given the win less substance over the years.

Tagging with Tyson

Ironically Cesaro’s first-ever match in WWE came against Tyson Kidd on an episode of SmackDown in a nice piece of symmetry for the future. With his singles career on the downward turn once again, Cesaro headed back in the tag ranks to form this tandem with Kidd. A somewhat thrown-together pairing maybe, but the chemistry between them and Kidd’s wife Natalya saw them rise through the division and beat The Usos for the WWE Tag Team Championships at Fastlane in 2015. Then, just as they were dominating the tag team scene their run was disappointingly cut short thanks a spinal injury to Tyson -which has since seen him retire from in-ring competition.

Raising The Bar

If his pairing with Tyson was the appetizer to tag team notoriety, then the main course was his time spent alongside Sheamus as one half of The Bar. Originally thrown together by Mick Foley following their best of seven matches against one another, the started off as reluctant tag team partners but slowly built up a rapport and an act that saw them become one of the best tag teams of the past decade. Enjoying five tag team championship reigns and mixing it up with the likes of The Hardy Boyz, The Usos and The New Day. Letting their strong bond from behind the curtain shine through, Sheamus and Cesaro entertained both as heels and faces and certainly raised The Bar in the tag team division and on their own WWE CVS.

NXT Generation

Cesaro has never been shy of giving the next generation a helping hand and has on numerous occasions dipped his toe across the NXT brand in some standout outings. During Sami Zayn’s early run in NXT, Cesaro stepped in two feud with the up-and-coming WWE star and the pair put on some of best matches of that year across the whole of the company. Since then we’ve seen the Swiss star head to NXT UK to take on Ilja Dragunov and even on the main roster it was Cesaro who happily put over Mansor to give him a hometown win during one of WWE’s first few shows in Saudi Arabia.

Mania Moment

While he never quite got the main event push and title run many fans have lobbied for over the years, Cesaro did taste victory in a major match on WWE’s biggest night of the year. His rivalry with Seth Rollins was one the most entertaining feuds of early 2021 and it culminated in a meeting between The Visionary and The Swiss Superman at WrestleMania 37. On the night it was Cesaro who defeated one of WWE’s biggest names in a bout that was only bettered by the night’s history-making event. The win saw Cesaro propelled into a Universal Title feud with Roman Reigns, where he was finally allowed to flex his main event muscles against WWE’s most prize asset.
