Max Verstappen is set to extend his contract with Red Bull, earning an incredible £22-million-per-year with an official announcement expected within the next few weeks.

The Dutchman broke Lewis Hamilton's four year grip on the Drivers' Championship trophy and is keen to embark on a dynasty at Red Bull.

Verstappen has made it known that he wants to stay at Red Bull during the aftermath of his controversial victory at Abu Dhabi.

However, even with his new deal, Verstappen won't be among the richest drivers in Formula 1 history. According to the Mirror, here are the top 10 richest drivers in history:

10. Sebastian Vettel

The youngest ever driver to win a world championship has collected an impressive $76.5 million during his career.

Vettel achieved this at 23 years old and has four world titles to his name, he is currently driving for the Aston Martin F1 team.

Seen as one of the greats of all time and still going strong now. At the age of 40, he secured a podium finish at the Qatar Grand Prix last season.

He managed to end Michael Schumacher’s incredible reign of dominance with back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2006.

Although he’s had disappointing spells with both McLaren and Ferrari, he now represents Alpine and has $240m to show for his astonishing career.

The Brit, who narrowly missed out on his eighth title, is one of the highest regarded sportsmen in UK history.

He has 103 race wins under his belt and is tied with Schumacher for most titles of all time. He has acquired a stunning $285 million during his legendary career, yet is a long way off top spot.

The Schumacher family is infamous within the sport and it should come as absolutely no surprise to see Michael top of the all-time earners' list.

He won five consecutive titles between 2000 and 2004, which has never been levelled since, despite a stellar effort by Hamilton, who would’ve achieved said feat had he beaten Verstappen in Abu Dhabi.

Schumacher has gained a remarkable $800 million during his career.
