Dutchman Ron Meulenkamp suffered a major darts brain fade during his match against Keane Barry at the International Darts Open in Germany.Sitting on 163 left to checkout, Meulenkamp threw a maximum which meant he inexplicably bust his score. He was already 2-0 down at the time so he really needed to win the leg to have any chance of making a comeback but the writing was on the wall after the visit. It was a critical error as it enabled the Irishman to take a 3-0 lead, in one of the most astonishing moments seen in darts, in years. He was perhaps put off due to the fact that Barry hit a 180 in the visit before his throw but the massive mistake cost him dearly as he went out of the competition after suffering a 6-2 defeat. It was looking like a pretty good leg by The Bomb up to this point as he was sat on 163 after nine darts. The 33-year-old will hope for a much better display when he next takes to the stage at the German Darts Championship in Hildesheim on March 11.

Elsewhere in the world of darts, Gerwyn Price has praised his personal trainer for his recent upturn in form.

The Welshman was in stunning form at the most recent Premier League event on night three in Belfast.

He recorded two nine-darters in the same night in one of the most extraordinary performances ever seen on the oche.

The 36-year-old said: "I put it down to being back in the gym and looking after myself.

"The last two-and-a-half weeks I've been putting some hard work in at the gym; my personal trainer has been working me hard.

"When you feel good physically, you feel good mentally and that's why I feel I'm playing my best stuff at the moment.

"I felt like I couldn't miss. I told James in the practice room, I was going to hit another one, I just fancied it tonight.

He hit the nine-darters during his semi-final against Michael Van Green and then again during the final against James Wade.

It is perhaps the best Premier League performance since Phil Taylor produced two perfect legs in the 2010 final with Wade being on the receiving end on that occasion also.
