Liverpool will take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday afternoon.

The final will be played by two of the very best teams in the world.

The Reds are currently in brilliant form and are in a battle with Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Chelsea may be too far adrift in the race for the Premier League crown but are the reigning Champions League winners and have talent aplenty.

There will be many world-class players on the pitch at Wembley when the two sides lock horns.

There is no definitive definition for the term world-class. But we think for someone to qualify as world-class they must be in the top three players in the world for their respective position at this current time.

And, with that in mind, we think as many as nine players that are set to play on Sunday afternoon can be considered world-class. View them below...

Edouard Mendy (Chelsea)

Mendy has been the best goalkeeper in the world over the past few years. He's commanding in the air, is a superb shot-stopper, has good technical ability and rarely makes a mistake.

Alisson Becker (Liverpool)

The Brazilian goalkeeper made numerous mistakes during the 2020/21 season but he's been back to his best this campaign. He's a brilliant all-round goalkeeper and has saved Liverpool numerous times since signing for the club.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Alexander-Arnold is the best right-back in the world going forward. He's directly contributed to 18 goals this campaign (2 goals, 16 assists) in just 27 games. That's ridiculous numbers for a full-back. He's also a much better defender than he gets credit for.

Andy Robertson (Liverpool)

Can you name three left-backs in the world better than Robertson? Alphonso Davies is one that you can make an argument for but we're struggling to name anyone else better. For that reason he has to be considered world-class.

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Van Dijk suffered a serious knee injury in the 2020/21 campaign and there were doubts he would never get back to the level he was performing at before his lay-off. He's made those concerns look silly as he's quickly returned to being the best centre-back in the world.

N'Golo Kante (Chelsea)

Kante's energy in midfield is unmatched. He's been one of the best defensive midfielders in the world for more than five years.

Fabinho (Liverpool)

Fabinho is so important to the way Liverpool play. He provides the back-line with so much protection and he's a massive miss whenever he isn't available.

Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

In October, before Liverpool's Premier League clash against Manchester City, we didn't name Mane as world-class. But he's been scintillating in recent months. He was the best player in the tournament as Senegal won the Africa Cup of Nations and he's kept up his form since returning to Liverpool, scoring three times and recording an assist in his last two games.

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Salah isn't just the best right winger in the world: he's the best player in the world full stop. He's played at an extraordinary level in the 2021/22 season, having netted 30 times in 33 games.

Players that just miss out from being considered world-class: Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva, Reece James, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Diogo Jota

Rudiger is the unluckiest to miss out. He's been brilliant over the past few months but isn't quite in the world's top three best centre-backs. The same can be said for Thiago Silva.

Jorginho is perhaps the biggest name to miss out, given he recently finished third in the Ballon d'Or.

But he's not even the best midfielder at Chelsea. In fact, Kovacic and Kante has both performed at a higher level than him this campaign.
