A football fan came within minutes of landing an incredible bet placed before the Carabao Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea on Sunday evening.Twitter user @BenWalshhh decided to try their luck during the game. The punter put on £20 with odds of 300/1 on the game finishing 0-0 and there being no yellow cards during the opening 90 minutes. They would have won £6,000 had the bet come in. There were numerous chances in the game with both sides missing golden opportunities to break the deadlock.Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Sadio Mane all missed big chances, while there were also three disallowed goals in the 90 minutes.

Despite there being some heavy tackles during the game, referee Stuart Atwell showed leniency and refrained from dipping into his pocket.

With the game approaching the 90th minute, it looked as if the fan would end up winning a fortune.

But then Mateo Kovacic ruined it for the punter. Kovacic had the ball in Liverpool's half but his forward pass was intercepted.

Liverpool broke with Mohamed Salah and the Croatian midfielder cynically hauled him to the ground, earning him a yellow card.

And, with that card, the punter's chances of winning £6,000 were dashed. Watch the moment the bet was ruined below...

Devastating. The punter was so close to winning so much money but then Kovacic had to ruin it.

To survive so many scares only for the Croatian to be booked minutes before the final whistle must have been devastating.

Alongside posting a picture of the bet, the punter wrote: 'Was there really any need Kovacic?'

To be fair to Kovacic, it was a smart foul to give away given Liverpool were in a dangerous position.

But that fact doesn't matter to the punter at all.
