Rangers are trying to give off 'positive vibes' as they look to tie Connor Goldson down to a new long-term contract at Ibrox, according to the Herald and Glasgow Times’ senior Gers reporter Chris Jack.

Goldson's future remains uncertain as his current agreement, worth £27,000-per-week, is set to expire in the summer.

What's the latest news involving Goldson?

Managing director Stewart Robertson has told Sky Sports the reigning Scottish Premiership champions are ‘not resigned to losing’ Goldson.

Robertson also revealed sporting director Ross Wilson has been in regular contact with the Gers’ stars whose contracts will run out in the coming months.

The development comes after Football Insider claimed in December that Goldson had rejected the offer of a fresh deal.

The report suggests the 29-year-old is eager to return south of the border and join a club in the Premier League.

Goldson left the English top flight to join Rangers in a £3million deal from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2018.

What has Chris Jack said about Goldson?

Jack is certain that Rangers are still keen to see Goldson, who played a key role as the Gers won their first Scottish Premiership title in a decade last term, commit his long-term future to the club.

The journalist feels the Glasgow giants are trying to build confidence that Goldson will eventually pen an extended contract.

Jack told GIVEMESPORT: "Rangers would like him to sign a new deal and I know Stewart Robertson spoke about Goldson's contract a couple of weeks ago.

"I think Rangers are trying to give off the most positive vibes that they possibly can."

Who could Goldson join if he leaves?

The Scottish Sun previously revealed that Championship sides Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion are keen to tie Goldson down to a pre-contract agreement.

Due to entering the final six months of his Rangers contract, the 6 ft 3 star is able to hold discussions with clubs outside of Scotland and the report suggests the Midlands duo are Goldson’s strongest suitors.

According to the Daily Record, via Ibrox News, a reunion with former Gers chief Steven Gerrard could also be a possibility at Aston Villa.

Gerrard left Ibrox for the Premier League side in November but, during his Rangers reign, the 41-year-old handed Goldson 182 appearances.

The lure of working with Gerrard again could prove crucial as Goldson admitted the then-Rangers boss 'had a massive influence' on his decision to head to Glasgow.
