Wolves are going to have to pay a lot of money to replace defender Romain Saiss if they end up losing him this summer, says journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a move away from Molineux.

What is the latest news involving Saiss?

According to Hespress, Sevilla are interested in signing Saiss this summer, with Wolves seemingly in no rush to hand the Moroccan a new deal.

"I am very happy with him and that’s the only thing I can say at the moment," Lage said last month when discussing Saiss' contract situation (via Shropshire Star). "We have time to discuss that when we try to prepare the future."

The central defender has been a key player for Lage this season, missing just a couple of Premier League games due to Morocco's participation at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Considering that, his Portuguese manager will surely be desperate to keep hold of him for the next campaign and beyond.

What has O'Rourke said about Saiss and Wolves?

With Sevilla's sporting director Monchi reportedly a fan of the player, Lage may have to start preparing for life without the 58-cap Morocco international. And from O'Rourke's point of view, that may be a challenge, with a capable replacement unlikely to come cheap.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: "Not easy to replace, if you were to lose Romain Saiss on a free transfer, it's going to cost you quite a few quid probably to replace somebody of the stature of Saiss.

"So for Wolves, they'll be hoping they can end the season well and convince the defender to extend his stay at Molineux."

How good has Saiss been this season?

Very good. On WhoScored, he ranks in Wolves' top five when it comes to average match rating after putting in some solid performances like in the impressive 2-0 win against Tottenham last month.

That game, the former Angers man made six clearances - only Conor Coady recorded more (seven) - and was in the top five for interceptions, showing his defensive quality.

Ultimately, that is something Wolves will surely not want to lose, though it is starting to look like a real possibility if it had not already.

And as O'Rourke mentioned, replacing Saiss may not be an easy or cheap task, so the Midlands club have to be careful here.
