Celtic 'will continue to keep tabs' on Bristol City frontman Antoine Semenyo despite potentially being unable to meet his current employers' financial demands, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The Bhoys have added plenty of fresh faces to their squad since Ange Postecoglou's managerial appointment last summer, but it appears he is already looking to strengthen his options further in the summer.

What's the latest news involving Semenyo?

Semenyo's agent, Tony Finnigan, has told Football Scotland that Celtic hold a serious interest in the Bristol City man.

In the interview, Finnigan admitted to being questioned by Hoops scout Craig Strachan over his client ahead of potentially making a move at the end of the season.

It comes after Bristol World revealed Strachan was sent to Ashton Gate to watch the frontman in action against Queens Park Rangers last month.

Strachan would almost certainly have returned to Glasgow with rave reviews after Semenyo got his name on the scoresheet by bagging the opener in a 2-1 win.

But Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson has issued a hands off warning to any side with aspirations of prising the 22-year-old away from the club, stating it will take ‘an awful lot of dough’ to secure his signature.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Semenyo?

O'Rourke believes Semenyo will continue to be on Celtic's radar ahead of the transfer window reopening for business in the summer.

However, the journalist fears the Scottish Premiership title contenders may be frustrated in their efforts to prise him away from Bristol City.

O'Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "I think he's shown what he can do playing in a more forward role rather than out wide this season.

"I'm sure Celtic will continue to keep tabs on him. But if it comes down to pricing, I think Celtic will be priced out of it."

Why could Celtic be priced out of a move?

BristolLive have revealed that Nottingham Forest saw a proposal turned down by Bristol City hours before January's transfer deadline.

The report suggests it will take as much as £20million to tempt the Robins into sanctioning Semenyo’s departure.

Celtic would have to shatter their record transfer fee to meet those demands as their current record outlay is £9.27million for Odsonne Edouard.

Semenyo had taken his season's tally to eight goals and six assists heading into the weekend, which means Celtic and Nottingham Forest are set to face even more competition for his services.

Bournemouth have also been linked with making a move, while Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg are understood to be interested as well.
