Tottenham and Antonio Conte will be interested in signing Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij this summer "whatever the price", claims transfer insider Pete O'Rourke.

The 30-year-old is likely to be up for sale due to his contract situation and has been heavily linked with a move to north London in recent months.

What is the latest news involving De Vrij?

Calciomercato reported towards the end of February that Inter have placed a €20m (£16.6m) price tag on De Vrij's head.

The Dutchman will have just one year to run on his contract in the summer and does not look close to signing a new one, leaving the Nerazzurri potentially needing to sell him to avoid losing their asset for nothing in the future.

In terms of potential destinations, FC Inter News recently claimed that Tottenham are one club who are keen on De Vrij, with Conte thought to be sold on the idea of having the player in his back three again.

The two, of course, worked with each other last season as Inter went on to win the title under Conte before the Italian's summer exit.

What has O'Rourke said about De Vrij?

O'Rourke thinks Tottenham would be willing to go to extreme lengths to sign De Vrij in the next transfer window.

When asked by GIVEMESPORT if the north London outfit will be all over the central defender at €20m, the football journalist said: "Definitely. They would be interested in De Vrij whatever the price tag is."

Is anyone else interested in De Vrij?

Yes. Unsurprisingly, there are other clubs looking at the experienced 55-cap Netherlands international.

The same FC Inter News report claims that Barcelona have been in contact with De Vrij's agent Mino Raiola as they look to bring the former Lazio man to the Camp Nou.

Tottenham could also face competition from within England, with Newcastle United being another team who have been mentioned.

According to TUTTOmercatoWEB, the Magpies actually made a move for De Vrij during the January transfer window, only for him to turn them down. If Inter do decide to sell in the summer and Eddie Howe's side are still in the Premier League, perhaps they could become an option he comes round to considering.

It seems, though, that Tottenham and Conte are the ones who are really desperate for De Vrij's signature. Will they acquire it? It is certainly something to keep an eye on when the market opens again.
