A report from Auto Motor und Sport is claiming that Ferrari have made big strides in terms of their engine performance, to the extent where their step from 2020 to 2021 could actually be smaller to the one between last year and this year.

The Scuderia enjoyed a resurgent campaign in 2021 with them getting stronger and stronger as the year wore on, leading them to beat McLaren to third place in the Constructors' standings.

That said, though, they want to be finishing on the top step more in 2022 and many have suggested over the first week of testing last week - though that is only loosely indicative at best - that the new Ferrari is looking like one of the strongest cars ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Certainly, that will excite Scuderia fans and to fuel that excitement even further the German outlet is suggesting that the Prancing Horse has made the biggest step of all the teams with their engine for 2022 from 2021, and that some believe they have made bigger progress from 2021 to 2022 than they did between 2020 and 2021, which is some prospect.

2020 was a dire campaign for the Scuderia with their power unit hampered by new regulations and they spent the year largely running around in midfield.

2021 saw them make a good recovery, though, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc both putting in impressive performances and earning podium finishes on occasion, and many think that could be a great platform for 2022.

And, that all said, if their engine has also improved greatly yet again next season, there's every chance they could be challenging for race wins and maybe even the championship in the coming months.
