FIFA 22 is the latest instalment in EA's long-lasting franchise of football games and, all in all, the games have gotten better year by year.

EA has come a long way from humble beginnings in FIFA 98, where you could play exhibition matches and that was about it. Now FIFA has become a game with a vast majority of modes. From Ultimate Team to Pro Clubs, from Skill Games to Career Mode - there really is something for everyone now.

Not only this - the modes span from online to offline. A lot of players only like playing FIFA online due to the competitiveness, but some enjoy a more chilled out approach and tend to play their stuff against the CPU. It really is just down to personal preference.

So with all these modes online and offline - does FIFA have a story mode?

Does FIFA 22 Have A Story Mode?

In short - FIFA 22 does NOT have a story mode.

FIFA has never really had a 'story mode' as such, apart from 'The Journey'.

The Journey was the major storyline-based game mode launched in FIFA 17 where users played as fictional footballer Alex Hunter, playing in trials before being signed to a Premier League team and eventually winning caps for England.

The Journey was replaced by Volta Football in FIFA 20, which combined the storyline aspects of the previous games while also incorporating indoor and small-sided games from the FIFA Street series.

Volta is included in FIFA 22, but it isn't necessarily a story mode. However, it's certainly the closest thing you'll get to it in FIFA 22.

Volta has been a nice addition to FIFA in general, it's good fun to play with pals - but it doesn't live up to what it was trying to replicate in FIFA street, which had much more of an arcade style to it.

Career mode has been massively revamped this year, with new cutscenes added for negotiations between players - which often feel 'story mode-esque', however once again I wouldn't necessarily call it a story mode.

It's unconfirmed as to whether we'll see Alex Hunter on our screens again, but I think considering the effort EA put into this mode - it wasn't greatly received by the community, who are always far too invested in FIFA Ultimate Team.

We may see a FIFA story mode in the future. Only time will tell.
