Wolves tipped for talks over internal agreement with £8.1m star

Wolverhampton Wanderers could enter contract talks with Max Kilman in the summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

There are doubts over the central defender’s long-term future due to Premier League rivals holding an interest ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.

What’s the latest news involving Kilman?

According to talkSPORT, Kilman has worked his way onto Chelsea’s radar while there are serious doubts over whether Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta will remain at Stamford Bridge.

The report suggests the west Londoners have sent scouts to watch the 24-year-old, who is a boyhood Blues fan, in action.

Chelsea are not Kilman’s only admirers as Manchester United are also reportedly monitoring his situation, with current interim manager Ralf Rangnick impressed by the centre-half.

Kilman’s current contract – worth £15,000-per-week – does not expire until the summer of 2026, so Wolves are in a strong negotiating position if any suitors head to the negotiating table.

England boss Gareth Southgate is understood to be mulling over whether to hand Kilman a maiden international call-up ahead of the Three Lions’ upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.

What has Pete O’Rourke said about Kilman?

O’Rourke believes Wolves will look to give Kilman a more lucrative contract at the end of the season.

The journalist understands the West Midlands club do not want to see the former Maidenhead United man move onto pastures new amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

He reckons a hefty pay rise would show how Kilman has developed into a first-team regular thanks to a string of impressive performances over the course of the season.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I’m sure there will be contract talks, maybe in the summer, just to improve his terms and bring him more in line with the other top earners at Molineux.

“It would show his reward for the progress that he’s made for the club as well.”

Why is handing Kilman a new contract important to Wolves?

It would have been understandable if Kilman had been wondering whether he would feature in Bruno Lage’s plans after he was appointed as Wolves’ head coach last summer, replacing the departed Nuno Espirito Santo.

But the change in the dugout has paid off for Kilman as he has played every single minute of Wolves’ campaign, emphasising his importance to the Portuguese.

The £8.1million-rated Kilman is also highly-rated in the Wolves dressing room as captain Conor Coady described his central defensive partner as ‘outstanding’.
