Wolves: 'Definite interest' in £45m Molineux star from Euro giants

Wolverhampton Wanderers are concerned that Ruben Neves could look to force through a summer move to Barcelona, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Neves has gained extensive interest thanks to his impressive performances as Wolves continue to challenge for a place in the Premier League’s top six.

What’s the latest news involving Neves?

The Daily Mail have revealed La Liga giants Barcelona are interested in taking Neves to the Nou Camp at the end of the season.

The report suggests the 26-cap Portugal international is likely to leave Wolves in the summer and talks have already been held between Barcelona and Neves’ intermediaries.

Neves still has just shy of two-and-a-half years remaining on his £58,000-per-week contract at Molineux and is said to be ‘open-minded’ over his future.

Barcelona are not Neves’ only suitors as Manchester United and Arsenal were reportedly mulling over whether to make a move during the January transfer window, when Wolves were open to sanctioning his sale for in the region of £45million.

According to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Juventus are also in the race for Neves’ signature.

What has Dean Jones said about Neves?

Jones understands Barcelona are keen to bolster their midfield options by welcoming Neves to the Nou Camp ahead of a title push next season.

The transfer insider has hinted Wolves are preparing for the 24-year-old to seek a move in order to challenge for silverware.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “There is definite interest from Barcelona in Ruben Neves and that’s a bit of a worry for Wolves because they know at some point the player is going to test himself at one of the elite clubs.

“They were confident he wouldn’t jump ship for Arsenal or Manchester United right now, but Barcelona? That’s different.”

Could a move to Barcelona happen?

If a deal were to go through, it would be the second time Barcelona have raided Wolves in a matter of months.

That is because Adama Traore headed to Catalonia on an initial loan deal in January, although the switch could be made permanent for £29million in the summer.

Traore’s return to his former club came about thanks to Jorge Mendes, who is also Neves’ agent, so he could play a key role if the transfer is to take place.

It appears the Portuguese midfielder, who has featured 203 times and become a fan favourite since joining Wolves from Porto in a then-club record deal worth £15.8million, could be heading out of Molineux in the summer despite being a key man under head coach Bruno Lage.
